Where are snapper (pink snapper) commercially harvested in WA?

Snapper are predominantly caught between Shark Bay and Carnarvon, with smaller quantities are also caught from Cockburn Sound, Bunbury, South Coast, Geraldton and Kalbarri.

Where is WA caught snapper sold?

All Cockburn Sound snapper is sold on the Perth market. All snapper caught on the south coast is either sold in the south coast region or Perth market. All other snapper is sold to WA, Perth or Eastern States markets.

What are the regulations on commercial longlining in Cockburn Sound?

Only one commercial fisherman is licensed to take snapper in Cockburn Sound using long lines. This fishery is managed by restrictions on the number of hooks, length of boat and area of operation. The commercial fisherman is not permitted to use a winch, nor operate between 15 September and 31 October and minimum legal lengths apply. The commercial fisherman voluntarily does not operate on weekends to minimise contact with recreational fishermen. He is permitted to operate during daylight or evening hours.

What penalties apply to interference with commercial fishing operations and fishing gear?

A $5,000 to $10,000 penalty can apply if found to be interfering with fishing gear ie removing fish from a net, or preventing a person from fishing.
