The Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC) is the peak industry body representing the commercial fishing industry, pearling and aquaculture.
Based on a renewable resource, the industry generates an estimated $1.2 billion for the State’s economy.
Western Australia’s professional fishermen harvest and supply seafood to the eight out of ten members of the community who buy the majority of their seafood, to the hospitality sector of the tourism industry and to service a profitable export market.
The industry works under strict government regulation and in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority to ensure the sustainability of commercial fisheries.
This website provides information on the industry in Western Australia from its value, to its management and the environmental practices through to recipes to enhance your enjoyment of health giving seafood!
